"ART SIGHT: Another way of seeing the world" With Lorraine Pritchard

What is the role of art in society? How is it relevant to our progress? What are the characteristics of making art which could prove equally practical as well as aesthetic?

In this presentation, aspects which are fundamental in the making of art are explored as applicable for the creating of society. The role of the artist is to demonstrate certain qualities or capacities which could be reflected upon by a wider audience in the hopes that art is not seen as an exclusive domain of a few, but rather as a valuable resource in community building in which all of us can take part.

About Lorraine:

Lorraine Pritchard's education has been a journey of unorthodox and organic exploration of art starting with Design at the Architecture Faculty of the University of Manitoba followed by independent study of Art and Drawing which led to more formal practical studies at OCA and then courses in Asian Art History at Atkinson College York University.

Lorraine is a visual artist with her studio in Montreal. The focus of her work is the patterns of inner thought being reflected outwardly through considerations of rhythm, attributes, time/space, movement/order and state of being. She has had more than 25 solo exhibitions and been in numerous group exhibitions. Her works have been shown in Belgium, Holland, France, Canada and Japan.

Lorraine and her partner Stan Phillips have owned and operated Au Papier japonais in Montreal for over 30 years in support of the continuation of washi makers in Japan.
